The name crumhorn itself appears as early as 1489 with reference to an organ stop, suggesting that the instrument itself predates this reference. They have a strident, buzzy sound with a range of just over an octave. Some models have extra keys to provide a chromatic upward extension. Moeck's historical instrument studio produce this impressive alto crumhorn in g which was originally designed by Otto Steinkopf. The crumhorn is made from oiled maple, using a cane reed to give a very full, typically strident sound.
With hard case, fingering chart, joint grease and care and maintenance instructions.
NB. This is an Alto in G Crumhorn which is supplied without any upward extension keys. The photograph is of an Alto in F Crumhorn with upward extension keys and is used for illustration purposes only. For further details, please do not hesitate to contact us.
