From the workshops of Morillo an excellent chromatic symphony with 4 strings. Taken from the Cantigas de Sta Maria codex, Spain, XIII century. Soundbox made from cedar and soundboard made from cypress. Chanterelles (melody strings) g, Gross bourdon (drone string) G below chanterelles, Petite bourdon (drone string) D above middle C.The name Symphony (or symphonia) was first applied to instruments resembling hurdy gurdies in the 13th and 14th centuries. They typically have 3 or 4 strings, two of which are drones, and are more simple in their design and appearance.
