A 4 string mediaeval instrument thought to have been the forerunner to the cittern. This citole by Waidler is based on a sculpture bu Benedetto Antelami in the Parma Baptistry dated late 12th or early 13th century. Ribs, back and neck are formed from one piece of sycamore. Flat back and front with pierced rose. The fingerboard is inset with frets and it has 4 metal strings which can be played with either fingers or plectrum. String length 360mm.
