Take it away - 18 months!
We have some exciting news that could see you spreading the cost of a
musical instrument over 18 months instead of 9 months with a new Take it
away interest free loan!
The Arts Council have just added an extension to the Take it away
scheme to cover purchases on higher priced instruments from £800 to
£5,000 and to spread the cost over 18 months, completely interest free. Certain types of instruments can often be much more
expensive than others, even at a beginner’s level, so this has been done in the hope that this
new offer will be able to help many more people get hold of the
instrument of their dreams!
How does it work?
The new 18-month Take it away loan process will work in the same way
as the current 9-month loan, but you will be able to spread the cost
over double the amount of payments on instruments and accessories from
£800 up to £5,000. You'll still need to pay an initial 10% deposit at
the point of sale.
You will need to meet our customer eligibility criteria in order to
apply – so you’ll need to either be over 18 and using the scheme to buy
an instrument for a child under the age of 18, or between 18-25 years of
age and applying in your own right.
To be eligible to apply for a Take it away loan, you must be:
- EITHER an individual over 18 buying an instrument for a child under the age of 18
- OR an individual aged 18-25 years using the scheme to buy an instrument for themselves (or someone else, e.g. as a gift)
All applicants must also:
- Be a permanent UK resident
- Be working at least 16 hours per week
- Hold a bank or building society account capable of handling direct debit payments
Applicants using the scheme to buy an instrument for an under 18 will
be required to complete a customer declaration confirming that the
recipient of the instrument is a child.
Unfortunately we are not able to support applicants aged 26 or over who are not using the scheme to purchase a musical instrument for an under 18.
Take it away - 9 months!
How does it work?
You can use 'Take it Away' to purchase any instrument costing between
£100 and £2,000 pounds. The payments you make will consist of a 10%
initial payment by credit or debit card, followed by nine monthly
installments of 10% each. Accessories and tuition can also be included.
In-Store
It's extremely easy to apply - all you need to bring with you is a
credit or debit card. Once you have chosen your instrument and
accompanying accessories, the shop staff will take a few details from
you, and then make a quick phone call to get your credit approval. Once
the credit has been approved, you pay the 10% deposit, set up a direct
debit for the further nine payments, and then take it away..! The scheme
is available at both
The Early Music Shop, Saltaire and
The Early Music Shop, London.
By Mail Order
The process is very similar, simply 'phone us, and we will post the
forms to you. Once completed you should return the forms to us. When we
receive the forms back there is a 14 day wait before we are able to send
out the goods.
Who is it for?
The Take it Away scheme is for everyone! It is is a new Arts Council England initiative created to help people get involved in learning and playing music. Anyone
with a credit or debit card can apply for the interest free credit to
buy a musical instrument. The main aim of the scheme is to encourage
people to purchase and play musical instruments, it is particularly
aimed at those taking up an instrument for the first time, or perhaps
parents buying an instrument for a child, but no one is excluded.
The Musical Instrument Finance Company (MIFCO) handle the loans. MIFCO
exclusively offers credit for the purchase of musical instruments.
Applicants must be over 18 years old and a permanent resident of the UK. Please ask staff for further details, or see
