  • Easter Early Music Course 1st-7th April




    1 - 7 April 2012,  St Georges School Ascot

    The Easter Early Music Course is designed for players of recorders and viols with some opportunities to play other instruments and sing.
    Consort Songs • Broken Consorts • Multi-Part Music (ten to twenty parts, often mixed voice/instruments, multi-choir, verse anthems etc) • Large and Small Ensembles • Trio Sonatas • Choir • Renaissance Wind Band • Technique Classes • Lectures • Small Consort Groups.

  • Northern Recorder Course 10th-17th April




    10th - 17th April, Bawtry Hall near Doncaster DN10 6JH

    The Northern Recorder Course was founded in 1966 by Dennis Bamforth and Colin Martin and has grown to become one of the foremost recorder courses in the world. A particular feature of the NRC is the interesting range of music available to be studied. Repertoire from the Medieval period to the present day is studied in a variety of ensembles from recorder orchestras to suit players of all abilities to Trio Sonatas and one to a part classes.

  • Summer School Of Renaissance Music 21st-27th July




    21st - 27th July, Trafford Hall, Wimbolds Trafford, Chester

    The NWEMF annual summer school of renaissance music had had a new venue since 2011. The venue is a grade 2 listed building near to Chester. The residential facilities are comfortable and we have plenty of easily accessible playing space for our regular singing, viol and recorder consorts. Lute will be offered as a lead instrument as well as voice, viols and recorder. We look forward to this years Summer School being as popular as ever and encourage you to make an early application.

  • NORVIS 28th July-4th August



    28th July - 4th August, College of St Hild and St Bede, Durham

    The Northumbrian Recorder & Viol Summer School (NORVIS) is held annually in Durham, England. The course covers all aspects of early music and is suitable for beginners through to advanced and solo players.


    There are technique classes for viols, recorders, singing, harpsichord, lute and baroque strings. Other activities include consort playing, concerts, lectures, trio sonatas, renaissance band, choir, baroque orchestra and early dancing.

    This course is designed for recorder players of all standards, from near beginners to advanced students. It is a large course, with up to 130 students, and the atmosphere is always friendly and encouraging.

  • Irish Recorder and Viol Summer School 18th-25th August




    18th - 25th August, An Grianan, Termonfechin, near Drogheda

    A course designed for players of viols, recorders and other early instruments. Non players are also welcome in this lovely area, and players often come to the course with their families.

  • Cheltenham Recorder Festival 31st August-2nd September




    31st August - 2nd September, Cheltenham


    The Cheltenham Recorder Festival has grown to become one of the highlights of the recorder year,
    with an enviable reputation of being one of the friendliest and most enjoyable recorder courses run in the UK. One reason for this is that the CRF offers an exciting variety of music to cater for all tastes and abilities, ranging from established renaissance and baroque repertoire through to contemporary pieces which will be premièred at the Festival.
