The Early Music Shop is delighted to launch a new competition for young EM ensembles as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations.

 The competition will form part of our annual exhibition and festival The London International Exhibition of Early Music formerly The Royal Greenwich International Early Music Festival & Exhibition at Blackheath Halls.



 

Early Music Young Ensemble Competition - at a glance


Competition applicants

Applications are welcome from young ensembles who match the following criteria:
  • The average age of the ensemble must be 31 or under on 9th November 2018.
  • Ensembles can have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 12 members.
  • Ensembles must perform repertoire commonly accepted as ‘Early Music’ (i.e. pre-1800) on period instruments. One contemporary piece written for and/or performed on period instruments may be included.

Competition Format

The preliminary round will be conducted via recordings. Four ensembles will be chosen to compete in the final on Friday 9th November in Blackheath as part of the London International Early Music Exhibition 2018.They will each perform a 45 minute recital in front of the adjudicators and a public audience.

Prizes

  • 1st Prize - £1500 cash and a concert as part of the London International Early Music Exhibition 2019
  • 2nd Prize - £500 cash
