Performed on period instruments.
ENSEMBLE 452 present a debut concert containing three works that span the transition from the Classical to Romantic style. Mozart's Quintet K.452 for piano, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon was the first work written for such a combination of instruments, and directly inspired Beethoven to write for the same ensemble. Russian composer Mikhail Glinka's Trio Pathetique, written only a few decades later, combines virtuoso piano writing reminiscent of Chopin with characterful roles for the clarinet and bassoon, all in Glinka's own expressive style.
ENSEMBLE 452 brings together young performers already making their mark on the European period instrument scene. Specialists in historical performance, they bring the freshness, clarity and character of historically - informed performance on period instruments to music of the Nineteenth century, to thrill audiences with music born of the Romantic spirit.
